La Panadella is a small neighborhood of a town called Montmaneu, in Catalonia. According to the 2006 census data, it has a population of 56.
Located on top of the mountain pass of the same name and next to the N-II road, La Panadella used to be an important spot on the route between Barcelona and Madrid for a long period of time. That meant that by the late 1800s many hostels, restaurants, gas stations and similar businesses were already active in the area.
In 2004, however, the area went into some decline after the opening of the final stretch of the A-2 freeway (aka “Autovía del Nordeste”), which rapidly absorbed most of the traffic.
